Nostalgia in Boulevard Park
Four “bungalow courts” that were built along H Street between 1929 and 1935.
The oldest of the series is Camelia Court, at 2309-2315 H. Its ten cottages, designed by Paul Opdyke, are in the English Tudor Revival style, with white stucco walls and dark wood trim (autumn 1929). The black and white photograph, taken after a rare Sacramento snowstorm in March 1942, appears in the book, Sacramento’s Midtown (p. 39).
Built along H Street between 1929 and 1935 is the oldest of the series of homes in Boulevard Park.

The next “bungalow court” is at 3400 H Street, overlooking McKinley Park (1929-1930). Its twelve tile-roofed cottages were built in a Spanish Colonial (or “Early California”) style by Charles Mathews and Arthur Fisher. The black and white photograph, published in the Sacramento Bee on March 8, 1930, shows the court shortly after its completion.
